[ So Reno just makes his way to the room/place where Rude is, and hovers over him (only possible if Rude is sitting down obviously), arm outstretched, palm up, in a clear message 'yo hand me the watch' ]
[He types it as a response and manages to send it right before Reno burst into his personal space but the redhead probably also heard Rude mutter it under his breath as he walked in, too.
He hesitates for a second but eventually hands his device over to Reno.]
[ Reno cackles and starts fiddling with the screen until he gets to the edit of the username. He proceeds to change it from "rude" to "@@5h0l3" and hands it back. (If Rude wants he can change that too... he'll have to either ask or figure it out himself ) ]
Oh man, now we're busted. Guess we couldn't stay secret for long.
It's not like I've been messing with it for long... I just saw Aerith's reply. [And got a little ahead of himself. Whatever. Reno will be Reno. That's fine.]
[But he kind of gets Reno's frustration now. It probably would have been a smart play but at least this wasn't Midgar. Or anywhere on the Planet. Who really knew anything about the Turks here? As long as the others didn't out them...
[ Reno takes the look at his own watch to see that the person Rude just answered was—
—a fucking Sephiroth? Of all people, he's here too? Aerith was a surprise, but that revelation makes him blanch a bit. And hey, Rude's question is good and succinct, better than whatever else he would have cooked (at least until he, ya know, calms the fuck down)
He paces the room, furiously writing down the reply and then putting the watch away with a loud clang. Throwing himself on the nearest soft surface (chair? bed? idk) and groans loud. ]
Fuck, this was supposed to be easy way of gathering info. How many more of them are there?
He watched Reno pace and flop down with his usual calm demeanor. It wasn't really surprising to see Reno anxious about something this sort of fucked up. To be perfectly honest, Rude wasn't feeling much better about it he just hid it better.
[ It was stupid and impulsive, and Reno groans dragging his hands down his face. ]
Fuck—! [ he hisses and quickly skims the network searching for any other side of the "sephiroth" username. He finds one, about some job-related skill and shows it to Rude. Not the whole thing just enough to see Sephiroth talking. ]
Sorry about that. [ His shoulders slack and he looks remorseful as he shakes his head. What a spectacular foot-insert-into-mouth. ] I'm on edge, I shouldn't have—
[ Another ping, and another message. While Sephiroth is distinctly uncooperative, he's... well he's still talking. Reno flings the watch on Rude's bed ]
I'm not touching that for now. I know when I have to back off and didn't do that on time. [ You know, take space away. Maybe the moons are tugging at him already. Or maybe the whole past week is catching up.
[His voice is on edge but he's not showing any other signs of anger at his partner just yet. Mostly he's just tense because it is, in fact, Sephiroth on the other side of the text conversation and that was...complicated, at best.
A little later though, just as he's finishing up a response to Aerith, he finally spots his new username thanks to Reno's meddling and curses Reno's name under his breath.]
...damnit Reno.
[After turning off the watch for a moment he turns to Reno.]
You wanna explain yourself, partner?
[And yes, he did phrase it that way on purpose. To get his point across. He's staring directly at Reno and waiting for it. If it were anyone else they'd probably describe Rude's look as a glare but Reno is mostly immune to all of Rude's expressions except the most striking of them. It probably barely looks like a mild warning in Reno's eyes.]
Tch— Thought it would be funny— [ All the easy and playful mood he had early evaporated by now, changed into a tense and uncomfortable air. He gets up, makes two more rounds across the room, and during the second one Rude's watch has mysteriously got into his hands again. He's going through it once again and when he returns it to Rude, the new username reads "chivalry"
Reno was tempted to go for "polite" but deemed the pun too easy, too stupid. Since that's supposed to be a silent apology, he had to simply come up with something better and more fitting for his partner. He's shitty and snappy, but Rude didn't deserve it even as a prank. ]
He's right, ya know? [ Sephiroth, about Shinra and all. ] But then he's the one who called Turks business into the conversation—
[Rude isn't surprised to hear Reno say that. And honestly under better circumstances it probably would have barely gotten a response out of him, or at least not one so glaringly obvious.
He sighs and some of the tension releases from his shoulders (not all though because Reno didn't put all of it there). He turns back to the device in his hands but Reno is quicker and suddenly Rude is left staring at his empty hands with a small frown. He waits patiently for Reno to return the watch to him.
Rude made a small noncommittal noise as he noted the new username for his device. It's embarrassing but seeing as how Reno went to the trouble of correcting his mistake it was likely the closest thing to an apology Rude was going to get, so he refrains from changing it to something else. It was his way of showing Reno he accepted the silent apology.
He looked up at Reno.]
I know. We're not really Turks anymore--but what else would we really be if not Turks? [a pause] We'll just wing it. It'll be fine.
[Was he trying to reassure his partner? Maybe. Probably. Definitely.]
[ Reno snorts and shakes his head but that reassuring... it works, and he relaxes a bit
You can't take a Turk out of a Turk, basically. They're out of their depth a big-time, but that never stopped them before. Lack of employment suitable for their skills is a bit annoying, but it's not like mingling and making a fake identity.
Reno takes his break for a bit longer, before he gets back his watch and resumes the discussions. Back to work, back to work ]
[Luckily for Reno, Rude was a light sleeper. The repeated messages woke him and by the time the last one chimed at him, Rude was awake enough to roll over and grab his device, squinting at it to read the messages left for him. He huffed, knowing full well it wasn't an emergency with this sort of messaging.
On the other hand, Reno probably had some sort of reason for texting him like this so late at night. He texted a reply before getting out of bed and starting to get dressed for a late night stroll to find his partner.]
i returned via the main street in the entertainment district. but. for some reason the only bright point i see now is harbor's lighthouse
so you know, total opposite direction to haven
[ Wouldn't be the first time when he was drunk enough to get lost in a familiar environment, though it was a rare occurrence. The only difference is that he's not really that drunk right now. ]
Rude's mind was still stuck in the past and his first thought was that Reno was truly drunk if he couldn't navigate his way back to their place. It didn't occur to him that Reno was simply not a night bird.
He should have realized the text wasn't poor enough though. He'll figure it out when he gets there.]
[ What he would do without Rude, the only one person on this crapsack world he can truly count on? He continues writing, trying to narrow down the area that he is in ]
i took a turn left after leaving the main street [ As you would always do when getting back from the entertainment district, only instead of lights of a pub street he noticed the light of a damn lighthouse and realized he fucked up the route ] it's roughly hundred, maybe two hundred? meters down the road
[ He clicks sends and tries to discern anything more specific out of his surroundings. ]
i can hear the river nearby, but i haven't crossed it
[ So at least, he's on the right side of the river ]
[Though it was nice of Reno to try and help, Rude had his doubts as to the validity of the directions given considering Reno had thought he was making it back to their place. He considered the information though and started to head in the direction that would get him close to the water.
Once he was over there it wouldn't be that hard to find the redhead, right? Sure.]
[ And that's where he should have ended, but... nooo... he just keeps writing, because there is really nothing else to do as he waits. And it both keeps him occupied and provides a sense of connection. Not to mention takes thoughts of this, frankly upsetting fact, that he's blind during the night.
Granted, he sees sharper and further than ever during the day, but ironically, he has always liked nightlife ]
can you believe they kicked me out when they saw feathers? it was a good game! and in the middle of the round someone pointed that out, oh look what he is, and the bouncer just threw me out.
someone got salty i kept winning
asshholes
[ At least they didn't take his earlier wins. Hopefully, he isn't blacklisted from the den or what ]
[Well that was troublesome. Rude thought Monsters were generally accepted here due to how normal it was for them to just be people rather than mindless creatures like back where they were from. But he supposed there was always bias of some sort everywhere. Midgar had its own. The poor of the slums were always looked down upon.
And, hey, Reno was good at certain kinds of bar games. He wasn't surprised someone decided they had enough of losing their money to a smartass bird.]
Why am I not surprised.
[He wrote the reply quickly even as he continued to move. Even the smallest response would keep Reno happy and if he was typing out long explanations for Rude to read then hopefully Reno really was staying in one place to do it.]
[ He's being good! Staying in place!! And it would have been a manageable night, knowing that his partner is on his way, knowing that soon they'll be able to just hit the bed and forget
[Because of course it did. Rude heard it before he felt it, walking right into the drizzle as he continued down the street. A small, moving storm centered around the watery area of the city for the moment. Rude chuckled to himself even as he shook off the rain (not that it did any good as it continued to rain on him but at least it didn't bother him like the cold or wind). He felt sorry for Reno with all those now wet feathers...]
You'll live.
[Almost to the river... just had to figure out where Reno had wandered off to by mistake.]
